COLUMBUS, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
McGraw Hill, Inc. (NYSE: MH), a leading global provider of education solutions for preK-12, higher education and professional learning, today announced it is collaborating with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine to provide access to McGraw Hill’s proprietary educational content and create more reliable, high-quality precision learning experiences through UCSF’s enterprise generative AI platform, Curate.

McGraw Hill is collaborating with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine to integrate its trusted medical content into their institution-developed generative AI platform.
The arrangement enables UCSF’s Curate, developed by Dr. Christy Boscardin, Director of AI, and Dr. Ralph Gonzales, Associate Dean for Clinical Innovation and Chief Innovation Officer for UCSF Health, to access trusted McGraw Hill medical content through Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard that enables AI applications to connect with external data and content sources. When learners interact with the UCSF AI tool, an agent can query McGraw Hill’s MCP server for relevant information, allowing responses to be grounded in the same high-quality educational content from McGraw Hill that medical students use in the classroom and in care delivery settings.
The MCP connection will make certain McGraw Hill medical education content, including Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine, available to Curate, which draws on vetted medical content to answer questions from medical students and residents. The initial pilot will focus on learners in internal medicine, family medicine and pediatrics clinical rotations.
The collaboration represents an emerging model for AI-supported education that leverages AI agents to support higher education institutions building teaching and learning experiences for their students and educators. These agents will help scale instructors’ ability to support learning outside the classroom and ensure that students are using trusted content that aligns with academic standards.
“This is the next chapter of precision learning—getting the right content to the right person at the right moment, on the platforms they use every day,” said Michael Crumsho, Group VP, Medical Education at McGraw Hill. “Our work with UCSF extends our ability to support clinicians and learners with the high quality, clinically validated content they must have in their high-stakes learning environment. This collaboration will help us learn directly from students and educators about the AI experiences that will most effectively support medical education, and enable our institutional partners to achieve their goals with a partner they trust.”
The integration, available to students starting this fall, advances McGraw Hill’s focus on shaping agentic AI for education by making its extensive course library, created by world-class experts and grounded in proven pedagogy, accessible to licensed users through trusted AI agents. As AI evolves from general-purpose models toward more specialized experiences, McGraw Hill is providing educators and learners a secure way to access trusted educational content that supports personalized teaching and learning needs, while helping protect the value of its content, authors and learning solutions.
“Precision is everything in medicine; clinicians and medical students need to know they can trust their sources of information. We’re giving them an assistant that only retrieves from sources they already trust — at the exact moment, with specific patient characteristics and user context that they need to take action,” said Dr. Gonzales, Associate Dean for Clinical Innovation at UCSF.
McGraw Hill and UCSF will study how learners use these AI experiences and how they engage with McGraw Hill’s content to measure impact on learning outcomes and inform future agentic AI learning experiences.
The collaboration builds on McGraw Hill’s broader strategy to help instructors and students use AI responsibly and effectively, extending the company’s work beyond its growing portfolio of AI tools embedded in digital course materials, including AI Reader, Learning Coach, ALEKS, Clinical Reasoning and other AI-powered solutions designed to meet specific teaching and learning needs.
